North Dakota
North Dakota has a lot of cool history. Some Native American tribes are the Mandans, Hidatsas, Cheyannes and the Dakota Sioux lived in this area. First France controlled the land. Then it was Spain, then England. .
The Battle of the Badlands took place in North Dakota from August 7-9, 1864.
The area that is North Dakota was purchased in the Louisiana Purchase. In 1861, North Dakota became a US Territory. North Dakota then became a state on December 2, 1889. An interesting fact is that North and South Dakota became states on the same day. President Harrison kept it a secret which state he signed first. It is unknown whether North Dakota is actually the 39th or 40th state.
